Entry formalities for tourists in Andaman and Nicobar Islands

To visit certain areas of the islands, including tribal areas, you must have a Restricted Area Permit (RAP), which can be obtained at the Port Blair airport or in advance from Indian embassies abroad, online, or from the Foreigner's Registration Offices in significant Indian cities. RAPs typically allow you to stay in the islands for up to 30 days.

Due to the presence of remote tribes, some islands in the Andaman and Nicobar group, such as North Sentinel Island, are completely off-limits to tourists. It is crucial to inquire with local officials or tour providers about the particular permits required for your chosen destinations as other islands may need more.

For Foreigners

All visitors from abroad are permitted a 30-day stay. With authorization, additional 15 days may be added. They need a visa from the immigration authorities in order to stay. The Indian Missions Abroad, the Foreigner's Registration Offices in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Calcutta, as well as the immigration authorities at the airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, and Chennai, are other places where permits can be obtained.

For Indians

Indians do not need any permit to visit Andaman Islands. But permits are required to visit Nicobar Islands and other tribal areas, which are given in exceptional cases. Application on a prescribed form may be addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, Andaman District, Port Blair.
